My name is Jason Brouwers and I have loved the guitar for as long as I can remember.
I had always dreamt of building my own guitars when I was young and spent many
hours pulling apart instruments, to see how they worked. In 1988 I restored
an old "Jason" semi-acoustic - although it wasn't the most professional job it did
give me an enormous amount of satisfaction.
In 1998 I had the opportunity to build my first Guitar - a Martin '0' style acoustic.
I was completely taken with this new art and when I strummed the first chord I knew I would make many more.
The appeal of Luthiery for me is the blend of art and science. I am fascinated by the mechanics of
a guitar and the precision that is needed to produce a good instrument. I am equally taken by the beauty of timber.
For me, building a guitar involves Consulting, Research, Pencil Drawing, 2D and 3D CAD, Jig making, Template making, CNC programming,
Hand Carving and Hand Finishing.
Guitar building is a part-time activity for me as I also have a seperate full-time career. As I also have a young family
my time is somewhat restricted, by my own choice. I always have a guitar in progress and have enough guitars in the pipeline
to keep me busy for some time. I am always excited by the prospect of making a new guitar and I always try and
make time to discuss this with anybody who is interested.
